Shrinkpictures for Windows is a program that will run on most* version of Windows that performs very much the same as the online Image Resizer at shrinkpictures.com (our Parent site)

We have made it a simple as possible while still providing a powerful application for you to resize your images.

You simply select an image file from your computer, select the new size and press the “Resize Image” button.  It will then save a new image in the same folder as the original with a postfix of _SP on the filename.  The New resized image will also be converted to a jpg file.

For example:  If your original file name is  img00256.jpg the name of the resized image will be img00256_SP.jpg

Once you choose an image to resize, it will show you a thumbnail of the image in the preview window – along with detail about the image you selected –  the filename, the file size in K and the dimensions in pixels (w x h).

When you resize your picture, the Preview window is updated with all the new details – the filename, the file size in K and the dimensions in Pixels (w x h).

The trial version will let you resize 15 images before it expires and you need to register.  Once you have resized 10, you will get a reminder screen telling you how many more images you can resize before you need to register.  Once you have resized 15 images, you are only able to register the software.

This is a screenshot of a Pre-Release version, it will be the same as the release version.

Each of the main functions in the screenshot above are numbered in Red which are explained:

  1.  The Help Button – clicking this button will launch your web browser and go to this web page.
  2. The Register Button – This button will be here if you have not yet registered the software
  3. Select Image – This button will open up a window where you can choose the image you wish to resize
  4. Once you have chosen an image, you can choose how to resize it – by default, it will be pixels
  5. The New size of your image if you selected “4″
  6. The option to resize your image by a percentage value
  7. If you selected “6″ you can then move the slider to a value between 10 and 90 % of the original size
  8. Select the Picture Quality and Image Size.  By default, “Better / Medium” is selected, but if you need a smaller file size, choose “Good / Small” or if you need the maximum Image Quality and file size is not important, then choose ” Best / Largest”
  9. Finally, Click the “Resize Image” button to create a new, resized image.

Once you select your image at step 3, we open up another window that shows a thumbnail version and some information about the image – such as the file name, the file size and dimensions in pixels.  When you click resize, we add details of the new file name, the new file size and the new dimensions in pixels.
